Mount Temptation
Mount of Temptation Jericho - Mount temptation (Mount of Temptation)To the north-west of the old Jericho is a hill, known among Arabs as Karantal, with Christian traditions better known as Mount temptation (Mount of Temptation). On this mountain Jesus fasted after he was baptized by John the Baptist, here it tempted the devil: "If you are the Son of God, command stones to become bread." But Jesus answered him: "It is written that does not live by bread alone, but the word of God is alive people." In 340, the hilltop chapel was built, another chapel was built in the cave where Jesus took refuge. In 1875 the Greek Orthodox Church won the right to these lands, and in 1895 built a Sarandarionsky Monastery (the name of the monastery is correlated with a 40-day fast of Jesus) in the middle of the road to the hilltop. From the monastery up to the summit, a path leads. There is still intact remains of a chapel and an ancient fortress hasmoniyskoy.
