Acre

The history of the small town of Acre has almost five thousand years, and the events it is not poorer than most of Jerusalem. Acre is located on the Mediterranean coast and is geographically located very advantageously, there has always been a port and the briskly conducted trade. Therefore, the city is constantly attacked and tried to capture. It also visited the Egyptians and the Mamelukes and Crusaders. Acre is famous for the fact that during the Crusades Teutons made it their capital - just a few of these cities in Europe. The town was named when Saint-Jean D'Akr, and the memory of those times is preserved in the city thanks to a few dozens of churches and monasteries built by the Crusaders. Surprisingly, many of them are completely preserved until today, and you can actually see knights halls, mosaics, castles and fortifications. On board the Mamluk times says almost the country's largest mosque, and, moreover, in those days the city was trying to capture Napoleon, but failed. And today you can see the very same city fortress, which saved the Acre.
Monuments of the ancient history of Israel are concentrated in the Old City, which is the center of the modern Acre. You'll be amazed at how well kept all these old buildings, churches and mosques: the mosque of al-Jazzar, the Ottoman architectural monument of Eretz Yisrael, the crypt of Saint John, which is now converted into an underground museum, the fortress of Acre, the Monastery of St.. Francis, a Tunisian synagogue "Or ha-Torah, a market of Al-Aviad, and more.
Among the entertainments in Acre - the golden beaches, fishing, windsurfing, yachting, the annual music and theater festivals - in short, what is interesting and helps with the comfort of a good time. Outside the town is worth seeing "Bahai Gardens, where the house-museum of Bahai religion prophet Baha'u'llah.
Sure, there are not indifferent, who saw the city, mention of which already known from the Bible, who was not fascinated by the special atmosphere of antiquity, historical sites and wonderful scenery of this place.
