City of Acre
Acre also known as Akko (or Ptolemais, the name given to the city by the Greeks) is located in northern Israel, at the northern extremity of Haifa Bay. On account of this town a long history.
In the XIII century, the Crusaders have made the city an important point in the process of conquest of the Holy Land and the important economic center with a population of 40 000. After that, from time to time, the city passed from hand to hand: He belonged to the Italians, Arabs, British, and since 2005 it is under Israeli jurisdiction.
Acre is sometimes mistaken for a city mentioned in the Bible, but there we are talking about a completely different place. Although, there have been significant events, among which is the defense of the city by Napoleon's army in 1799. Around the town are the ruins of the outer wall, and in the city we can visit the Crusader castle.Crusader castle tower rooms feature high ceilings and gothic long dark corridors.
Other attractions include the Quarter Knights Hospitaller Order, the ancient defensive walls of the city (the walls were stacked so well that we were able to repel the attack of Napoleon in 1798). In the XVIII century horizon Acre its green dome and minarets of the mosque was decorated with El Jazar. Opposite the mosque is a museum (famous for its archeological exhibits), the museum is housed in a Turkish bath of the XVIII century.
Other parts of the old city were heavily influenced by Turkish Arabs and the British.Near Accra are excellent beaches, especially on the road between Accra and Haifa. Acre is situated 130 kilometers from Jerusalem and 20 kilometers from Haifa.
From Acre, you can go to the north of Israel to the natural caves carved ocean water, located on the border with Libya, to the flawless beauty of the gardens and the Bahai Temple (Haifa), in Caesarea (the picturesque ruins of the Roman city on the Mediterranean Sea). Cost of the tour for 10-20 people is quite reasonable. Wear shorts and something light, with a worth to take a water bottle, hat, sunglasses and, if specified in the brochure, a swimsuit and towel, and, of course, do not forget the camera.
